Come on Over: Game of Thrones Premiere Party

From the title of this post alone, you can tell how backlogged I am on posting…oops. It’s been a crazy couple of weeks at work, and when I get home, the last thing I want to do is stare at a computer screen some more. Which is also the reason I haven’t answered your e-mail. Sorry about that.
Anyway, we like Game of Thrones. For those of you who have been living in a deep dark cave for the past two years, Game of Thrones is a television show on HBO (so yes, lots of sex and violence, sorry Mom) based on a series of books by George R.R. Martin, which I haven’t read but the Boy has. So he knows everyone’s names, and I just call them “the midget” and “the tomboy one.” There are lots of big giant castles and fighting and it’s like Medieval Times on HBO fantasy steroids. In summary, you should watch it, especially because if you don’t, none of this will make much sense…
First off, the decor. The Boy has a blog called Pixels of Thrones, where he creates quite adorable pixel versions of the characters from the show, and we printed some of them to hang out around the food table. Points to those of you who can identify…

And next, the food itself. Being me, I made like 350% more food than we actually needed, but we had leftovers for like two weeks (and I think there’s still extra pasta sauce frozen in the fridge), so that’s ok, right? The Boy made up clever labels for everything, so it would be in theme. Beyond The Hand of the King, below, we’ve also got SanLsa, Arya Ready for Some Spicy Bean Dip?, Hear Me Roar  Tor(tilla Chips),” and a Vege-Tyrion Platter. This is why I love him.

We also had Hot Pie (this is apparently a character, don’t ask me), also known as ham, mustard, and Gruyere tart…
…Deviled Dragon Eggs, both Meat-Eating and Vege-Tyrion (basically, one had bacon – they both had cute colored outsides, though)…

…and mushroom bourguignon, or Ours is the Fury Fungi, served over Do You Follow the Old Gods or the Noo(dle) Gods? (read: pasta).

Then of course, no party is complete without drinks and dessert!

The R’hllortini was a beet and ginger martini, pictured below. The others were basically a White Russian (one of our friend’s specialties) and a Dark and Stormy, which involves rum and ginger beer and is the best thing ever.

Beer Brownies…

Slightly Bloodied Sigil Cookies…

And an Apple Ros-berry Crumble (recipe here)!

And that was our party. OK, that was mostly our party food…but just know our friends are incredibly beautiful and it was fun. You can imagine the rest for yourself.

Note: Speaking of television, the Boy and I designed a Doctor Who joke t-shirt that is being crowd-funded at Teepublic…take a look, and if you like it, buy it and help it get made!
